Format
This script demonstrates the various text formatting commands available and how to apply them in a Calcpad script. Text formatting commands include text size, text font, bold, italic and underlined, sub- and superscripts, and text colour.  
 
Anchor bolts

Holding down bolts under combined shear and tension are designed in accordance with SABS 0162-1:1993.  The bearing resistance of the concrete, pull-out resistance and bond stress of the bolts and anchor plates and welds required are all calculated.

 


Angle
The buckling resistance moment of an equal angle is calculated according to BS 5950-1:2000, Paragraph 4.3.8.3.

T-beam

The area of reinforcement required for a concrete T-beam in bending is calculated in accordance with SABS 0100-1:1992.

 

The use of a dynamic picture (‘pic’) procedure is also demonstrated in this script. A ‘pic’ is updated immediately a dimension is changed in the input table of the script.

 
Angle Col

This script performs the calculations required to design an angle to column connection according to the method followed in Example 10.2 in the SAISC Structural Steelwork Connection Handbook (1992). The handbook is based on SABS 0162-1:1993.  The equation by Kulak, Fisher and Struik to calculate prying action given in the SAISC Structural Steelwork Connection Handbook is used.

 


J-eff

 

Open sections like I-beams, channels and colf-formed sections normally have a low pure torsional constant (J) and a relative high warping constant (Cw). If one or both ends of a beam element are restrained against warping its torsional stiffness will be enhanced considerably.
It is our opinion that this enhanced torsional stiffness should be used in frame analyses where the torsional stiffness plays a significant role.


Long-term deflection

 

Calculation of long-term deflections using the effective moment of inertia procedure (Branson method) as described in ACI318.
 
The effective moment of inertia (Ie) procedure was developed to provide a transition between the upper and lower bounds of Ig and Icr as a function of the ratio Mcr / Ma.
